The first kind of vehicle part that involves mind when mending one's car is OEM vehicle parts. The word "OEM" stands for "original equipment manufacturer," and this means that OEM auto parts come directly from the business that made the automobile to begin with. In other words, if a person's Chevrolet Cavalier were to are unsuccessful due to alternator or beginner then an OEM alternator or beginner could be purchased in order to repair the automobile. The benefit for buying oe manufacturer car parts is the fact that there will generally be considered a guarantee on the part that is bought. In addition, the first is usually assured that the part will work and fit the car on the first try.
A downside to placing your order OEM automobile parts is the actual fact they are generally much more expensive that other styles of car parts. Whereas other vehicle parts may be around $50, the same automobile parts that are bought from the OEM may be around $150. The price makes all the difference, too, when restoring your car, so it may not automatically behoove you to buy OEM vehicle parts.
On the other hand, the other kind of auto parts that can be purchased when mending a car is after-market vehicle parts, or auto parts that are created for the same automobile by third-parties. These vehicle parts are usually much simpler to run into, and even more auto repair outlets and shops generally carry after-market car parts instead of OEM auto parts. That is one of the best benefits to buying those types of car parts, but another is they are significantly less expensive than OEM auto parts. This was touched on in the last paragraph about OEM parts, but after-market vehicle parts are usually 50% or more less than the original manufacturer's car parts.
With that said, it is very up to the person and the situation when the car is being mended. Many people choose OEM vehicle parts just because they are the safest type of parts to go with, but arguments for third-party car parts are because they are much cheaper tend to be more accessible.
